Fire Prevention Week: Oct. 5-11...Fire Prevention At Home.

This year's theme for Fire Prevention Week is Fire Prevention at Home. I have added the link for kids and parents to the National Fire Prevention Association under favorite places to visit (upper right column). Please take the time to look over the many useful forms and tips to help keep your home and family safe. It's also reassuring to see how many good things you may already be doing.

At Bartlett School We Have P.B.I.S.!

Ask any student who goes to Bartlett School what PBIS stands for and you should get the answer, "Positive Behavior In School"; or, if you're lucky, they will sing it to you! We are in our 5th year of PBIS which stresses safety, respect and responsibility. This program is partially grant funded and involves many schools from across the state from preschool age through high school. We are proud to have been the first school at SAU 19 to be a full participant.

Our students learn through positive examples what appropriate behaviors should look and sound like in a variety of locations throughout the day. This includes everything from the classrooms to the cafeteria, to the bathrooms! We are presently emphasizing dismissal time.

What will be next? We'll find out at our next All School Meeting during October!

Friendship at Glen Lake

The students at Glen Lake and I will be spending lots of time this year hearing stories about friendship and practicing skills that help all of us in making and being a friend. The first story that we read this year was Jack's Talent. It's a story about a little boy on the first day of school who hears his classmates sharing something that they are good at doing. When it's his turn, Jack says he can't do anything special like his new friends. He remembers the names of all of his classmates and lists the talent each one of them shared. In the end, his teacher helps him realize that "remembering" the way he could about his new friends is also a very special talent. Check out a nice site to visit under Places to Visit: Jack's Talent

Back to School At Bartlett and Glen Lake Schools

How lucky am I to be the guidance counselor at both schools!? I spend most Mondays at G.L.S. getting to know all of the Kindergartners and doing a variety of activities with them, then I head to Bartlett on Tuesdays through Fridays to spend the rest of my week doing interesting things with the students there. The best of two worlds! I will be entering stories and articles for both schools on this site and I invite you to read any or all of them depending on your level of curiosity. It's all a great trip, so let's get going.
